Five things decide what a coolroom alarm system costs, and most of the range comes from the first two:

• How many spaces you watch. One sensor on one room is the cheapest start. Every extra coolroom, freezer, display cabinet or under-bench fridge adds a sensor and a little more setup. The count, not the brand, is usually the biggest lever.

• Blackout resilience. Battery backup and a cellular link so the alarm still reaches you when the power or internet is down cost a little more, and are the whole point of the system. A Wi-Fi-only sensor is cheaper and goes blind in exactly the outage you bought it for.
• Monitored or self-monitored. A self-monitored app that pings your phone is the low-cost path. A monitored service that escalates push, SMS and a call through a list of people until someone answers costs more, and buys you someone keeping the whole thing trustworthy.

What it does not do is escalate to a second person, keep records for an auditor, or watch several rooms, which is where a fuller system earns its cost.
